Ampeg SVT Blueline 8×10 (Towel Bar)
Ampeg · 1969
What It Is
The Ampeg SVT 8×10 (nicknamed the 'refrigerator') is the standard pairing for the Ampeg SVT head. 'Blueline' refers to the original production run of the SVT from 1969–1980, which had a blue control panel. The 'Towel Bar' nickname comes from the distinctive chrome handle on the front of the cabinet. The cabinet is sealed (closed back) and loaded with eight 10-inch Eminence speakers, each rated at approximately 40 watts — totaling 320W RMS. The sealed design contributes significantly to its tight, punchy low-end character.
Tonal Character
Tight, focused, and authoritative. The sealed 8×10 design produces a controlled low end that doesn't bloom or spread like a ported cabinet — bass notes are defined and distinct even at high volume. The eight 10-inch speakers provide enormous surface area for air movement without the looseness of larger drivers. The Blueline specifically has a slightly vintage character compared to modern SVT cabinets.
